So I have a chance to get a set of front and rear D60 full width axles for free from my brother. Well actually I'd be trading a '79 f250 for them. But when he bought them from a friend years ago they had just been rebuilt, and have been sitting in his garage under a work bench for all these years.

I'm wondering if I did the swap, would my 4.0 and 5 speed be able to turn 36's or bigger? If so what kind of gearing would i need? I can make it a flat towed or trailer truck and pull it with my ram so getting it to the trail is not an issue. I've got about 200k on the engine and it seems to do ok with 33's and 3.73's now...

Narrowed 94 HP D60, 5.38 gears, Yukon Grizzly locker, 4.0L, Auto and 40's...

You'll be fine.....

I'm doing the same with a 14b rear. From what I found for 37" tires 4.88 or 5.13 should put you back into the power band of a 4.0

Sent from road while ignoring traffic

Nope wont work. I have a set of half tons ill trade ya, be there in 30 mins or less. lol

Should be fine with proper gearing.

Thats front and rear D60's.

If I was I would sell the front '79 D60 since its worth $1200 easy (the rear is only worth ~$200). Use that money to snag a superduty front D60 and a 10.5" they can be had for $500 or so for the pair you would have enough to grab a locker.

Been spinning 38x20 AG tires with 5.13's and a 2.9, doing just fine.

I wanted 5.38 but got a deal on 5.13's. They work great as I never drive the old girl on the road. More power has been on the back burner for too long however:icon_thumby:
