Fuel tank/pump help for 84 BII

Just picked up my first BII project. It is an 84 with the 2.8.

The fuel tank that is currently on the truck is rusted and has several holes. The previous owner had plans for a fuel cell and electrical pump.

He has given me the pump (2.4 - 4 psi) but I need to know what type of tank to look for and how do I go about wiring the electrical pump. I think that the 84 had a mechanical pump on the engine and nothing else. Is this possible or is it better to stick with the mechanical stock set up? What about a regulator?

Any help would be appreciated.

if you are still running a 2.8 a stock mechanical pump is more than fine. even if he was using a fuel cell he could have used the mechanical stock pump. any fuel tank from a 2.8l (not 2.9 a 2.9 will work too but with minor modifications) and from a broncoII (not a ranger) will work

precisely. i have a fuel cell in the stock location on a 1988 broncoII that my v8 used a mechanical pump until i went efi with it

but a good way of looking at it is as far as fuel delivery dynamics go why would a fuel cell be any different than the stock tank?

correct any "ford-style" universal sending unit will work with your stock gauge

A fuel cell on a 84 B2 is lipstick on a pig IMHO.Order a new stock tank drive it.

1984 Tanks and senders are unique to 1984. You'll need to order a new tank for an 84.

unique how? As far as the impedance range of the sender?

The sender is smaller in diameter, so the tank hole is also smaller than 85-90. The fuel line hookup is different as is the electrical hookup for the sender.

so what you are saying is that the sender impedance is the same?.........all else is irrelevant to his fuel cell. he will need to put a female spade connector on the wire harness for the sender anyway
