OK, so i found an '84 ranger down the road that a guy wants to sell. Im thinking about buying it and putting the 2.3t im building in that instead of my DD, mostly because my DD has never done anything to deserve a transplant (that's a good thing), and i know i'll probably spend some time after the swap working out kinks...

my question is, the 84 is carb'd now, so it doesnt have a fuel return. What's the best way to get around this? swap the tank? Or will a simple ebay fpr work? I'm assuming that if it's designed to just bleed off extra gas, then the amount of fuel that's needed varies (that's actually obvious anyways)....

so, is there a regulator that will work so i can just block the return line, or should i just swap tanks?

If your going to spend cash on a fuel setup might as well just go with a fuel cell and a nice high volume pump

hi flow pump, yes.

fuel cell, absolutely not. iirc, they aren't even street legal and are entirely unnecessary.

i put in one of my spare volvo inline pumps on our bronco II turbo. Only thing we had to do was get a sending unit out of a newer truck that had a return on it an we just ran a new return line. Works great

true but up here you can get away with it just fine. if it was an latter model and you still had to do emmissions leave the stock gas cap in place. up here they just take the cap off and test the seal on the cap in a machine they have but his 84 is also exempt from emmissions as it is 25 yrs old now. Or you can use a stock efi ranger tank either way.

well im not lookin to spend too much cash. Im just trying to decide if i should get an inline pump, or an in tank pump, which would mean swapping out the tank.

mostly im just wondering if i need a return line or not?

Yes you need a return, no you don't need a tank swap. Go to your local junkyard and get an intank fuel pump assembly, it will drop straight into your tank, then all you have to do is run a return line from the tank to the engine.
