If you converted to a carbed 5.0L there will be no fuel pump... When you convert you'll need to get the fuel sender out of an older carbed truck as well - a manual pump attached to the side of the engine block will not be able to draw fuel from a sender that has a pump on it.

cant you use a return style regulator and the original pump?

Yes you can, but you will need one that will allow you to drop the pressure down to around three pounds. You will also need to wire in a circuit to power the pump, it's originally controlled by the ecu via a relay.

so should i wire in a relay or w.e. and run it to a switch? or is there a better way?

Relay and a switch would work as long as you remember to turn it off, or trigger the relay from the ignition circuit.

i've run lots of carbs off the efi pump.run the pump relay off the ignition, and you don't need a fancy regulator.just put a t-fitting close to the carb,so the top of the t(straight thru part)has the pump line on one side, carb inlet on the other.the leg of the t(90 deg to the top)goes to the return.i usually use a 5/16 t,as this is the fuel line size in most cases.

this may seem too easy to be true, but it works just fine.

by running a straight shot at the carb, you get the pressure(flow, really is what's needed with carbs) needed.the return lets fuel back fast enough it never can overpressure the system.
