I currently have a 1988 ford ranger 2.0l carb. I have a rebuilt 87 2.3l efi. I know that i will need a new fuel pump b.c of the greater presure. What presure do i need for fuel injection and will i need a new sending unit in my tank?

From what I understand, some of the FI systems did not need a low pressure pump in the fuel tank...only a high pressure (40-65 PSI) on the frame rail...

But if you go that route, you can just swap in a pump...since the tanks are the same size and the opening is the same...but you will need the return lines and the high pressure pump...

I happen to have a high pressure pump from the frame rail that was used for the 2.9...I don't think I tossed it yet...but it's been sitting for about five years...I know it was working when I tore down the old system because the guy drove it over back then...

fuel injection is usually 16-22 psi. so get a high flow pump and put a regulator on it with a return line going back to the tank.

My 86 has the 2.3 EFI and it has two pumps, a volume pump in the tank and a pressure pump on the frame. I think the pressure on the high side is close to 40psi.

That's what I've heard and read...the pump is rated for 65PSI or something like that, but you may only need the 40PSI to run the FI system...
