fuel pump?

Changed the fuel filter and oil/filter on the truck. Now it's had a complete tune up. Ran fine before this. When I depressurizes the fuel system I pulled the fuel pump relay and started it. Ussualey they start and then die... My truck idled at 250ish, would not die. I shut it off, and it restarted, still idleing at 250. Did this 3 more times before I changed the filter. Put the relay back in and it idles fine but hills I used to pull in 4th no problem now it's floored in 3rd.

fuel pump? Ideas?

Unfortunately I don't know enough to help out and what little I know doesn't support what's happening, but;
Wrong relay? You pulled the green one, right?
Check for power at the pump after pulling the relay and trace back if there is any.

I'm just going to replace the pump and see what happens. Its nearing 300k miles and 20 years so I might as well.

That is about the worst way to depressurize the fuel system. Once running the engine can actually suck enough fuel to keep idling poorly even if the pump is off.

A much better way, if you insist on actually releasing the pressure, is to use the test valve.

I usually just close my eyes and pop the line off.

I've always been told to do it that way. Guess I'll stop soon it that way. Any one know how many ohms or volts the pump is supposed to run?
