Sometimes when I try to start my truck the fuel pump doesn't run. But if I just sit and turn the ignition on and off several times I will eventually hear the pump "run" and it will start and run fine. If the pump itself was bad, wouldn't it cut out while driving? This problem only happens at start up and occaisionally. Sometimes it will be fine for a month or so, then act up again.
I don't want to get stranded with a bad pump. I hope it's just a solnoid or contact problem.

While I'm here, what is the O.D & I.D of the stock exhaust on a '94 2.3? Someone stole my cat. conv. Grrrr.

TIA

The fuel pump doesn't have a solenoid. It is turned off and on with a relay. The relay does go bad occasionally. A replacement doesn't cost that much.

Make sure you have a fresh fuel filter. Having to cycle the pump may indicate a pressure problem with the system leaking down after sitting for some reason.

There have also been occasions of intermittent wiring connections at the fuel inertia switch located inside the cab on the top of the trans hump slightly to the passenger side.:)shady

Yes, a relay, that's what it's called...easier to spell too! Thanks for the advice. I'll replace the relay & fuel filter (It was on it when I bought the truck). And check the connections.
Thanks again.

I have been having fuel problems lately too.
My fuel injection regulator blew out it's diaphragm a few weeks back.
$10.00 bucks at the scrap yard and back on the road.
I have changed my tank and in tank pump about a year or so ago.
Now I am carrying a new canister filter and a new cartage filter.
Another used frame fuel pump, pressure regulator, and a relay.

I was tapping on my relays with the engine running and when I got to the Fuel Pump Relay... it cut out ... so I replaced it with another used one ... seams to be working.

But I am wondering about my injectors now ... runs good ... but think they may be leaking down when the engine is off.

Oh yea this is a 1986 with a 2.9.
