89 4cyl 2.3, 1 new coil, new ignition mod. 8 plugs. fuel pump went bad, put new one in. still stalls out randomly, spits and sputters. took pump back out no garbage on screen or in tank. bad fuel mileage too. have to prime to start after sitting over night. no leaks any where.

fuel pressure regulator

Pull the sending unit and check to see if the power wire for the pump has good contact with the pin. Over time the pin will start to melt the plastic around the power wire and shift down and compromise the contact with the pump's power wire. Also check the harness to the tank with a meter. Do a voltage drop test to see if you have any degraded wires.

idk if it may help or not but i have an 88 with the 2.3 and mine had the problem of stalling randomly for no reason i swore it was the pumps but after i changed my sloppy looking pcv valve and egr iv never had the problem again
