when I put key in run position fuel pump does not turn on and fuel from pressure is zero as I slowly move key from run position to start the fuel pressure goes to about 35lbs and holds. as long as the key is held in the start position the truck seems to run but as soon as I leave go of the key and it springs back into the run position the motor shuts off fuel pressure stays at 35lbs

No, that tells me the fuel pump works fine. If the fuel pump was the problem there wouldn't be any pressure and the engine wouldn't run.

Sounds like you have an ignition switch problem.

Yes, +1 ^^^

Ignition switch is under the steering column, the key switch is connected to a rod that slides the ignition switch into it's various position making and breaking contacts to pass power to various devices.

I just had to have the fuel pump in my 94 Explorer replaced. I had a random no start issue. I couldnt track it down, so off to the the FORD garage we went. They had it about a week (I has some other work done also, while it was there). When they finally got it not start, they said fuel pump. replaced it (do it your self, I paid them 600 to do it). No more "no start" here. I still have a CEL on, and my code reader wont communicate with the car using the data port (FORDs computer wouldnt either)I can jump it and count the flashes though. I have tried everything and its still on (also replaced all kinds of crap).

Back to your question. I replaced mine and its a 94 also. Most times it would run fine, but every now and then it wouldnt come on (fuel pump).

I replaced the ignition starter switch and truck is running fine thanks for the info...
