Fuel pump life cycle

I realize this isn't a scientific question, but how long can/should the original pump last, I have a '02 with approx 107,000 on the original pump, for those that have had it replaced what miles?
Does it just quit and leave you stranded or are there warning signs?

The best thing you can do for an electric fuel pump is to not run out of gas . I bought a BMW with a Bosch pump that worked great when I retired the car at 350 K miles, This was an'87 FP. Bosch quality has gone down these days. They will only work for about 2 minutes running empty. In the 200K I drove it, I only ran out of gas twice.

fuel pump have no real life some seem to last forever some dont. My 94 ranger had almost 300K on it when I replaced because I had to R&R the fuel filler hose so.............

my 2012 E450 was diagnosed with a bad FP. replaced, still didnt work, ended up being the relay. Guess the FP was ok but had already replaced it with new Miles less than 15K.

I replaced two, one at about 120K and the other around 140K because the fuel level senders were shot.

I replaced another at 150K when it just up and died.

I have three other vehicles with 170K miles or more, one getting close to 250K with original pumps that are still working.

My 1994 is at 250k miles, 400k kilometers and, knock on wood, factory Fuel pump is still hanging in there

140,000 miles on mine and still the original fuel pump. I am just waiting IF and when it does die on me, hopefully not for a while.

I should point out that the one pump I replaced for a bad fuel sender, which has about 100K on it right now, I think is starting to give me trouble again.

However I also do not think the pump itself is at fault, but one of the transfer lines on the sender manifold.

2005 2.3 with 339,900 miles...2000 3.0 with 118,000 miles. both still have the original pumps.

I replaced the fuel pump on my 3.0 at about 140000, with the truck having been flat towed prior to my buying it for maybe 40000.

It gave up the ghost in rush hour, after making a left in the far left of a double turn lane. As soon as we coasted to 5mph below the speed limit, the crowd behind us laid on the horns.

So yeah, it can leave you stranded.

My 94 fuel pump has died 3x in 5 years and it is a Carter (good thing it has a lifetime warranty) that is in about 104k miles on all 3 and I don't run it lower then 1/4 tank

For whatever reason, it seems to depend on the vehicle.

My '86 Ranger has burned through at least 10 in-tank pumps in the 10 years that I've had it and two high pressure pumps. I have tried literally every brand under the sun - they all die rather quickly. I carry two brand new lifetime warranty spares at all times because sooner or later I'll be replacing one on the side of the road.

That said I put a pump and sending unit combo in my '88 four years ago that cost me $16 shipped from RockAuto and it's still going strong.

Warning signs are either intermittent or constant "sputtering" especially under load or a simple crank but no fire, no start situation.

Ive never met an aftermarket pump that would last as long as an oem. I had an oem last 20 years, then went through 3 different aftermarket pumps over 4 years before buying biting the bullet and going to the dealer for a good pump.

Run good gas, keep fuel filters fresh, and never run out of gas and an oem pump should last for decades.

I'm having a brain cramp. On the 125" WB 4.0 '94 Ranger 4x4 The intank stuff is the fuel pickup screen, the sender for the gauge (2 wires ) and a transfer pump ( 2 more wires) The main pump is on the frame rail?

The socket housing crumbled. So I soldered clips to the pins . for a solid connection. Old wires require careful attention. Ive had the Rat for seven yrs and have repaired or replaced several iffy wires
