i was just wondering if i could use a fuel pressure regulator without a return line on my converson.

im going from a 4.0l fuel injected to a carbed 302

First off...wait for other replies from members who know what they're talkin about :headbang:.......I know on my 2.9l v6 that the original efi supplies the injectors with 35 psi of fuel & it has a factory return line to the gas tank. My v8 carbed engine that's going in only needs 6 psi to the carb. I don't want to chop up the original fuel supply lines, so I was thinking of making an adapter that will allow me to attach an after-market fuel pressur regulator between the new carb & the original efi regulator. That way, the o.e.m. fuel pump doesnt burn up by constantly returning the left-over 29 psi to the tank, & the carb gets the 6 psi it needs. There's info in previous threads, but it would take a day to read em all to get some regulator info (of course we'd get a lot of answers to the questions we haven't asked yet!!!)

Edit: h-e-l-p:icon_surprised:

you can but its not recommended. a return line helps keep the pump cool by returning the excess fuel back to the tank. other wise, the excess fuel is costantly getting backed up, and the pump is over working. so i def. recommend one.

Hmmm. Alright. Well then I'm just gonna run a toggle to that bitch and run a summit electric pump external.

But as for gph, would 35 gallons an hour be sufficient for a relatively stock302?

yeah that should be plenty. might even be a little too much. but too much is better than not enough

I never did get that gph stuff.....if a V-8 gets 15 mpg & you drive it for 1 hour at 60 mph it used 4 gallons of gas, which would be 4gph, a-n-d since you want constant pressure to the carb, lets say you need 8gph. Now if you had a 30 gph pump, you'd have to drive it at .........uh.......180mph for 1 hour for the carb to be fuel-deprived:3gears:

then the 30 gallon tank would be empty, but you could probably coast 10 miles to the next gas station:icon_rofl:

wot is in need of more volume.

if at 120 mph its getting 3 mpg......:D

it gits 6 mpg at 120 mph circa 1968 (but that was when gas had some kick to it): Belleville, Texas to Baton Rouge, La. 2 hrs. 30 min. Hence: braindamage :headbang:

could that mean at 5500rpm (60mph=2200rpm/120mph=4500rpm/150mph=5600rpm) going 150mph, you would need about 16gph to keep it from starving? just for fun, throw in another 50% for the weight of the vehicle= 24gph just wondering:icon_confused: I don't know much about all this stuff...;like putting a 1200cmf carb on a stock 350 or 351 engine....ain't some of this stuff just over-kill?

well if this helps i work at advance auto and i figured i will try it and so i put the mr, gasket fuel pressure reg on my and bought a brass tee and ran my incoming to one side and my return on a other then the last one going to my engine had the pressure reg on it so the excess fuel would return to my tank so its recycling it and its working great!!!

You should put a guage on it, so you can adjust your pressure down to 6 or 7 psi. my .02 though

follow from my fuel filter down the hose and you will see a chrome pressure reg and ill get better pics hopefully this helps some

thanks for the pic and info guys...I'll quit thinkin bout all the gph/mph/rpm/gps/fyi/wot stuff & install the bypass reg. with the fancy little gage:headbang::headbang:
