Anyone know of a good write up on how to replace fuel pressure regulator. i.e...how to relieve pressure off the system, if it's possible to remove/install the quick connect fittings without the "special" tool? Got new one in today and would really like to get it swapped out to see if it is my problem..thanks.

To relieve pressure just unplug your inertia switch (a possible problem itself, press the button first to check if it starts) located on the passenger firewall then take off your gas cap and start the truck and let it slowly die. As far as disconnecting the line at the regulator I suggest going to the parts store and buying the tool, it is not that expensive($5-$15) The lines can be tough to get off even with the tool.

Sweet...already went up and bought tool...where is inertia switch? Took gas cap off and tried to relieve pressure on schrader valve, but got nothing?

The inertia switch is on the passenger side firewall to the right of the trans hump. here is a picture=http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/InertiaSwitch.html

The FPR on your 2.9 should be easy.
2 bolts hold it on the bracket and there will be some resistance pulling it out from an o-ring.

Douch the QD fitting with a solvent and a brush, they accumulate a lot of crud.
That'll make it easier to get the QD released.

If you pressed the schraeder valve and no fuel sprayed out, the pressure is already bled down.

Thanks, guys...got fpr changed out last night. Didn't fix the problem. Threw up another post on rough idle to see if I can get some suggestions on cause. Thanks for the help.
