Hey guys, Ive had my 302 running for awhile now but just got it road ready with the SAS swap. Currently im running a Holley 600 4160 4 barrel and a Mr. Gasket 12s with regulator. During road testing itl run fine for about 4 or 5 minutes, then all of a sudden it will not have enough power to throttle and will die.

So i get out and check the fuel pressure in the engine bay and its at 0. Let the fuel pumps run for a little bit and itl build back up to 7 psi and run fine.

So is one of my fuel pumps the problem?

Is it a problem that the fuel line is 1/4 our of the tank and then 3/8 the rest of the way?

I looked at the holley red pump and it says it flows 97 gph free flow and the 12s flows 37 gph.
I would think 37 would be plenty but am I mistaken?

I appreciate the help in advance!

Ford has always used 5/16 fuel line and 1/4 for the return.

Sounds like either a FP going out or a restriction somewhere.

Your regulator isn't set right. Or it's got a piece of trash stuck inside it. Got a filter inline before the pump and regulator ? You really don't even need a regulator with that pump. I'm running the same one on my 331 feeding three carbs without a regulator. Plenty of fuel at WOT. Only time it falls short is when the filter needs changing.

It does need a regulator cuz that pump puts out 10 psi which floods my fuel bowls. And I do have a filter before the inline pump and regulator but its brand new. I read reviews on that 12s and people strongly reccomend not to use it. One guy had the same problem that I do with it not supplying enough fuel while driving.

I went ahead and went big with a Holley red pump which will put out 97 gph at 7 psi compared to the 37 gph at 10 psi on the 12s. Its suppose to be really reliable too. Itl be in tomorrow and ill update on the progress.

Thanks for the input

I've used the 12S for years without a hitch. Sorry you're having problems. I used the same pump in a Purolator brand for ten years without a problem too.

Mounted and hooked up the holley red pump today and everything is running great. Only complaint I have against holley pumps is that they are so loud.

Both are mounted in the same place, but it is right where the frame curves up about at the door hinge

Alls i did was follow the instructions that came with it. It says mount it as close to the carb as possible but keep it away from heat.

The instuctions are wrong. All electric fuel pumps are desigend to push fuel, not draw it long distances from the tank. Mount it as close to and below the tank bottom level and it'll work fine.
