i have a 94 ranger with the 4.0 ohv... a couple weeks ago i was working on it... it started up fine.. ran alright, parked it in the garage.. went to move it out.. got half way out of the garage and it died..

The truck turns over, but will not fire.. and the fuel pump does not start. I checked the relay under the hood and it seemed fine, i'm just not getting ground at the relay. I checked the fuel shut off and it wasn't tripped. I jumped the fuel pump at the relay, and the pump fired up. Any insite on what could be going on?

Where do you guys think i should start?

thanks

Go over all of the areas you might have leaned on, levered on, or accidentally bumped looking for a loose ground or ? Check fuses under the hood. Then work you way back to where you do have "fire" and then figure out what is different.

i never had the hood open while working on it, i was peeling the dumb stickers off the side with a heat gun... so i know i didn't bump anything or anything like that.

if the interia switch is tripped.. should the button be up or down?

alright... new evidence has appeared i was just working on it... and before the button on the switch was down, so im assuming it was tripped... now i just went back out and was going to take the switch out and look at it.... the button is back up (im assuming in this position its not tripped) but the truck still wont start, and i don't hear the pump starting.

You can rule out the inertia switch by jumping its two connector pins or wires together.
I've done it with a stout paper clip jammed into the pins from the top of the connector, still installed.

Or you could use a crimp Scotchlock splice and not have to strip any wire, just squeeze it onto both of the wires.

If yours has three wires, I'll be surprised. If it does, two wires go into one pin so you can use either one connected to the other pin's wire for that test. The fuel pump ground is on the top center of the LH fender.

When the reset button is "set", there is no play in it. When it is tripped, it has a bit of play and you should be able to depress it about 1/4" and have it click back to set.
