I have a 94 ranger 2 wd with a 3.0 l V6 and a 1989 ranger 2.9 v6 4x4 .
My 89 gets better milage and has more power,is this normal? I had a 4.0 l in a 1993 ranger that got good milage with goood power ! Is something wrong with my 3 L or are they all like This? I think a small two wheel drive pick up should get better than 20 on the highway.

It's all relative to you truck's options and how well it was taken care of. My 94 Splash has a lot of changes to make it faster and has 3.55 gears yet gets almost 3 MPG combined more VS my 93 4x4 with 3.27 gears and an automatic.

Ok, you can't just come in and say "bad mileage" on a 20 year old vehicle. You gotta give us a LOT more info. Distance on the plugs and wires, oil changes, filters, does the tranny slip at all, what oil are you running in it, how is the compression, how do you drive, what kind of exhaust does it have on it, are the cats getting plugged up?

All of that and much more could go into the claim of "bad mileage". Frankly, for any pickup 20 MPG isn't awful.

My truck hasa fresh ford rebuild with less than 10,000 miles the compression is good and it had new plugs & wires installed when the engine was replaced last fall. Auto with over drive and 3.73 gears the same as my 89. my 89 has 200.000 k. The cat was replaced when the engine was new.

Guess it's just that engine. Run thinner synthetic in all the cases, Taller gears if it's a daily driver and follow the rules for better gas mileage.

Or sell it. LOL

The selling part is not a joke! that is my intention i was just wondering if all 3000cc engines are the same or is it just the one I have that is a fuel slurper. I was dissapointed because the highway milage is the same as MY 84 347 4x4 ranger that has 350 hp.
