Fellow TRS-ers,

I smell fuel (strongly) every time I drive my truck. I do not smell any when I stop.

Since a week ago, my mileage has decreased dramatically. I usually get ~22 mpg with my setup, but now get 12-13 mph. I have not done any offroading in the last few months. Last week when I was filling up my tank, I noticed a medium sized puddle of gas below the tank/filler neck. I have crawled under 3 times, and have not seen any traces of evaporated fuel. I have not seen any spills since then. :temper:

I've read quite a threads regarding fuel pressure regulators, pumps, etc. The Hayes manual didn't help much. Please help!

The first suspect, would be the fuel filler hose. Do you tend to keep the tank on the full side?

i agree, but if you have a cracked fill hose on a newer OBD 2 truck, the check engine light should in theory be on and a code for an evap leak would be set i'm not sure that would cause such a drop in fuel milege, but someone on here might know better. another thing i would look at is the return line, i know there was a recall on my 94 4.0l for a cracked return line that came with a fuel smell.

Thanks for the responses...

I actually have a tendency to keep her on the medium-low side since I make frequent long trips. I'll recheck the filler neck.

I'll check tomorrow since it's already late tonight.

Good luck, man. I hope it ain't something too pain-in-the-ass.

im haveing the same problem in the jeep
i thinl its a cracked line, and i know it needs a fuel filter cuz she's gotten really sluggish latley
i cant break the tires loose anymore
not that i want to but still, i like to have some low end
