I was wondering if anybody has ever had this happen,on my way home from work today my fuel line blew apart rite at the connector to the fuel filter. And they shouldnt come apart that easy

I haven't had it happen to me personally, but I've heard of it. Buddy of mine who is the alignment guy at the last shop I worked at got a car for alignment after one of the other guys did a tune up. Pete got about 2 miles into his test drive and then the engine died. He read over the work order, hoped out and looked at the fuel filter lines, and saw one was off.

The other guy didn't get the clip in tight. Yours might have just given out. They do break from time to time.

Most likely, its the clip that comes with the replacement fuel filter.

I've had new filters come without new clips for some odd reason before. Had it happen twice and went to the one lil mom-n-pop parts store by our old house and explained the problem, the guy disappeared in the back for a few minutes and came out with half a dozen of the clips and handed 'em to me. So now I have some spares I keep on hand.

I have had the clips come apart on me before but that was cause the Previous owner being a dumbass and not knowing how to take the filter off. So I learned that the little zip-ties work well for a quick fix.

Re-using clips when you don't know how to tell IF they will retain
the fuel line will behave similarly.

You should hear a distinct "click" as you push the line onto the male fitting.

I guess theclip just gave out then.I replaced the fuel filter three months ago and never had a problem with it till now. The funny thing is that when it came apart it didnt completely seperate so i just smelled gas and figured it was the car in front of me till i looked at my gas gauge slowly dropping.

I got to watch the needle drop as I was driving once. Wasn't even leaking. Just bad mileage. It was my dad's 5.8 250 and I was doing about 75 (didn't even know it could go that fast until then) down the highway.
