fuel line to pressure regulator securing wire?

I wanted to pull the fuel line off of my pressure regulator to cycle the fuel pumps and hopefully pump some fuel out of the system, but it appears to have this little plastic wire in place, which I would assume is put there as a safety measure to keep the fuel line from ever coming off. Is it a big deal to cut and remove this so I can get the line off?

Might be better off doing the draining from the fuel filter.

Here's a nice picture of a FPR removed.

The plastic clips you show are simply dust covers for the spring-lock fuel connections, which you need a special (cheap) tool to release.

Or, take two bolts off and pop the FPR out, as my picture shows.

Thanks for the reply. Try not to laugh too hard, but I have never once seen the fuel filter on my truck (haven't been under it much). Could you give me an idea of where it is located? Thanks again.

I'd "guess" the LH frame rail, right under the driver seat-ish. Held with a band type bracket surrounding it, IIRC.

Forward of the fuel pump (which has an electrical connector).

I didn't have the plastic line you are talking about but I would remove the regulator too if I were going to do what you want to do. Just be careful reinstalling...Those O-rings tear, even when new.

But, Why not just check the pressure w/ a gauge? Are you trying to remove it from the system? In that case, I would just unhook at the fuel filter. Alot easier and not nearly as much of a PITA.

My fuel filter is in the frame rail on the drivers side right near the motor.
