The fuel line connectors to the fuel filter have been butchered on my 2002 Ranger 4WD XLT 3.0L. I need to fix this mess but am not sure what to use. The fuel filter has two 5/16" metal tubes and one 3/8" metal tube.

Looking around the web I see these from Dorman:

Dorman 800-054 5/16” quick connector with 3/8” nylon tubing and union
Dorman 800-055 3/8” quick connector with 5/16” nylon tubing and union
Dorman 800-050 5/16” quick connector with 5/16” nylon tubing and union

I would have thought the 800-055 with a 3/8" quick connector would come with 3/8" nylon tubing.

Anyone else done this fix?

Obviously, there are options. You know what sizes you have on the fuel filter. Now go find out exactly what your hose sizes are. It might even be printed on them somewhere. A flashlight and rag and some soapy warm water are your friends. Then you can choose the right connectors.

Attempting to measure the outer diameter of those nylon fuel lines with a caliper is about hopeless and may not tell me if they are 5/16" vs. 3/8". I was hoping someone else had done this fix and could tell me what I need.

I'm also not sure as to how hard it is to insert couplers in those nylon fuel lines. I see where Dorman sells a fuel line kit with various connectors and tools but expensive for a one time job. The Dorman video shows a guy patching a nylon fuel line (conveniently out on a work bench) AND he warmed the nylon line with a heat gun. That ain't gonna happen with real gasoline dripping fuel lines under the truck!

Use a cup of hot water instead. Hot water won’t light gas on fire no mater how hard you try.
