I attempted to replace my fuel filter this evening. On top of Advance Auto giving me the wrong filter, I broke not one, but all three of the disconnect clips. Does anyone know of a source for replacement clips? A search of the forum leads me to believe the stealership will be of no help... Thanks in advance (no pun intended)

3? I've only ever seen 2 per filter.

Some filters come with them, some don't.

If you have some time to wait I think I have some sitting around that I could send you, but they are at my dad's house and I won't be back that way for almost 2 weeks.

EDIT: I do have 2 here with my new filter that I could send you. I can wait to go get my spares before I change my filter

Clips? Waiting?

Be a man! Grab some GD Duct tape and git r done!

every ranger filter that i've ever replace had new ones in the box

Adsm thanks for the offer, I may take you up on that. I've gotta go into town for court, on my day off of course... So I'm gonna return the POS Advance sold me and go to the stealership.

I didn't know that the clips may come with the filter. I've never seen a setup quite like this before... Had the disconnect tool out and everything and then didn't need it. I don't think I'm the first one to take this job on. It appears I only broke 1, just finished off the other two from the last guy's handiwork...

I did read something about using zip ties in place of the little clips.. Worst case fix, I suppose

I'm pretty sure that you can also get them at the parts stores. Go look by the HELP parts.

I wasn't even thinking about that when I offered to send you a set, remembered it when I saw Trail B2's post. Go check that out first, I think they are something like a $1 a pair.

Anyone else notice the 5.0 V6? Gotta get me one of those!

Ok, all issues resolved. Apparently my Ranger uses the flex-fuel filter, but I didn't think Ford made a 4WD flex fuel Ranger in 2001... Went to advance auto to return their filter and found what appears to be the replacement for the clips. Just installed a bit ago. Truck runs, no leaks. Good enough for me. Thanks for the help, guys!

Wow, running behind... Just got that Ozzie. I type as well as I change fuel filters!!! LOL

No, I think you could get flex and 4x4 in 01. The real question is if you have the little leaf badge anywhere.

I replaced the fuel filter a while back on mine and broke one of the clips. I ordered some new ones from napa out of the parts book they have and they were two long. Anyway I put one of the clips back in that i didnt break and have never got another one but it never leaks fuel that i know of with only one out of two clips

We are talking about Advance Autoparts stores here!:icon_surprised:

Even the motor craft ones are hit and miss though. I've gotten FG-800-A's without the clips, and I've gotten the same filter with them.

Its a matter of luck.
