I have a gen 1 ranger with a 2.9 i have a roblem with it starting in the mornings. it turns over longer than it should then fires (acts like its flooded) could this be an injector leaking or what could it be? (wen i start it i do not hold or pump the edal and you can still smell gas)

Fuel pressure regulator would be my bet. Start it and let it run for a minute or two, then shut it off. Then go pull the vacuum hose off the top of the FPR and see if you get gas dripping out of the vacuum port.

That's the most likely culprit. Mine acted weird like that (super rich) when the engine coolant temp sensor was bad.

Check the pressure regulator line as said above.

Also check spark. A weak spark can cause that too.

the regulator is new and so are all the plugs wires and distributor

What about the coil and TFI?

Do you know that you have good quality spark?

well everything is only 2 months old all new except injectors because i cracked a head so i jus rebuilt everything so i think it all should be ok. it goes to the mechanic tomorrow to find out

OK, now that I see the rest of the story, is it timed properly? If it isn't timed right, it will do this as well.

I'm not accusing you of this, but: There's a guy at work that is constantly dicking around with his timing and causing scenarios like this. Then I get the call "can you bring your timing light to work?". Then I adjust it so it doesn't run like shit. A couple months later I get a call "can you bring.....yada yada yada?". It's a viscous cycle. Last time I told him to go buy his own effin' timing light.

Oops, that was some rambling. Sorry! Just showing the importance of timing. :D The old adage "timing is everything" applies in motors as well.

i just had it timed because it was running hard and missn. is it possible that it keeps knockn outa time?

yes new distributor ignition coil new ignition module new plugs n wires eveything

Pull all your plugs and look for any that are wet. If you have a wet one, then you probably have a leaking injector.

If not, try this:

Next time you go to start it in the morning hold the gas pedal to the floor. This puts it in "clear flood" mode and shuts down the pumps and injectors. If it fires right over you probably have a leaking injector.

If it doesn't, give it a little, just a little, pedal. If it fires right over then, you probably need a new IAC.

just got it back from mechanic $280 worth of injectors to replace all turns out 3 of them were leaking #1 was the worst of all. thanx for all the ideas yall
