I hope this is the right place to post this.
I inherited my father's 1997 4x4 Ranger last year. I didn't drive it home from WA state because even after changing the whole in-tank assembly of fuel float and pump. the gas guage still malfunctions. It shows full right after the key is turned on, then after a few minutes drops rapidly. Regardless of fuel level in the tank.
We checked fuses and replaced them as well.
Is the next step to replace the fuel gauge in the dash? Problem is it looks like the whole guage cluster including odometer must be replaced.
What should I do next? Perhaps an aftermarket gauge? the truck is in WA state still (I'm in San Jose CA) because I didn't know the truck well enough to trust it for a long drive, and the 2500 Suburban 4x4 with the 454 gasser is killing me at the pump, so in May I have to go up, get the truck running, and drive it home-and gotta get everything right first time within two days...
thanks in advance for advice.
