The fuel gauge isn't working, goes from full to empty, in no time. We recently replaced the fuel pump which comes with the sending unit and no change.

What do I check next, or could it be a bad replacement part.

Thanks,

It could be a problem with the gauge itself or the wiring between the sender and the gauge.

If the problem didn't change with a new sender it is very probable you have a problem somewhere else.

I drove myself almost to the point of insanity trying to troubleshoot my fuel gauge. Mine is a 91 XLT. Underneath the brake vacuum booster, is a large white plug with about 50 wires, that goes into the cab. The one for the fuel gauge, is yellow with a white stripe, it was too short, and didn't make a good connection with the pin, caused very intermittent reading on the fuel gauge. Added 2 inches of wire.appears all is good so far.
