For a while I have had a problem with what I think is the float getting stuck in my tank. It usually happens when I leave the truck sitting on a steep incline in pretty much any direction. About a week ago it stuck again but it was never parked on an incline. Usually if I hit a bump in the road or some railroad tracks hard enough it will fix itself but this is going on a week that it has been like this and it won't fix itself this time. I even stood on my hitch and made the truck bounce like crazy and still nothing. I also topped off the tank a few days ago hoping that would maybe fix it but that didn't do it either.

Anyone know something else I can try?

I had the same exact problems with mine about 6 years ago. After 4 years of no gage I decided it was about time I replaced it. The one I got at Autozone drops in 1/8 take increments which I don't like. When you decide to replace it, pull your bed off rather than dropping your tank. There is a fairly recent thread here describing how to do that.

Well I've tried everything from shaking the truck every which way to smacking the shit out of the sides of the tank and nothing has worked so it's obvious that my sending unit is out. Bad thing is that they cost about $90 to replace...not happy about that!

my 94 has been having sender problems too. ive got 14,xxx miles on it and the first pump/ sender assembly lasted me 6 months (of course it died in the winter!), so i pulled the bed and changed it and all was good, until 6 months later. i changed it again since it had the same symptoms as before, was working fine then got hung up around 1/4 tank and then stayed there until i was alomost out of gas, then dropped down to E for about 10 mi, then id fill it back up and it would read fine until it reached 1/4 tank.

the new sender i put in a couple of weeks ago sent my gauge way past F when i filled it up for the first time and now it seems to be 1/4 tank off (indicates 1/2 tank when im really at 1/4) and its starting to aggrivate me! i can count just fine and as long as i remember to reset my tripometer i wont run out of gas, but its just the fact that its not working and it should. by the way, ive been using Carter fuel pumps and the pumps are still functioning fine, its just the sender crapping out on me. heres some links to pics of my sending unit and the removal procedure

Sending Unit

Last summer I changed a fuel pump for a guy in his little older ranger, I took the 6 or 8 bolts out from the bed and we just stood the bed up on its tail end, but it was not in good shape, so scratching the paint was not an issue then, So the beds come up easy, even if you just raise the front end and stand a 2x4 for the bed to sit on. Once you raise the front of the bed 2 or 3 feet you have more room than you need.
