Alright i am new to this truck first off. I have been scolling TRS and i can not find anything on my fuel gauge. Since ive owned the truck. (a month and a half) The fuel gauge has never worked. Im not sure if it is the sending unit , a simple ground, or more involved. So before i drop the tank i thought id look at all the simple stuff first. Any ideas????:icon_confused: Thanks in advance

ive never had a ranger with a fuel gauge that worked when i bought it. first thing i always check is the ground then if that isnt it i just change the sending unit. ive been told it can be the anti slosh(sp?) module thats behind the cluster in the dash.

The ground behind the dash or is it on the tank? sorry like i said not familiar with this truck yet

I am in the same boat, did you find the problem and a solution?

I have had this happen on a 2 Fords that I have had and in both cases it was the fuel float in the tank. They got small holes in them and would not float. Just another thing to look at.

Can you replace the float by itself or is it a part of the pickup assembly? I know it be smarter to just replace every thing in the tank while its out, but time and money is an issue. And does any body know were I can find a stock fuel gauge for an 88 2.9 ranger, I cant find one now were around me.

same problem with mine, when the key was off it read 1/4 tank and empty with key on. Went by what people suggested on here and took the bed off to change the sending unit. Me and my wife lifted the bed ourselfs so it wasnt to bad. got it all back togather and funny thing i always carried a gas can in my tool box with 2 gallons incase I ran out before we fixed the gauge, I did run out twice. but after we hooked up the new sending unit and turned the key on and i had just short of a full tank LOL. still driving on the same gas after 300 miles since the fix and down to an 1/8 a tank, Thanks for everyones help and suggestions on here,
