This is the first time I've needed to replace the fuel filter, but I can't seem to find it. I have a 1988 Bronco II XL 4x4 with a 2.9 and manual transmission. Schucks gave me an inline filter for it, but on the frame rail under the driver's seat, I see a device in the fuel lines that appears to have lines in and out the top of a small oil-filter-looking tank. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Fuel filter

On my 86 the fuel filter is right under where the drivers feet would go on the inside channel of the frame looks like a fat inline filter

The thing you describe is your reservoir cannister.

DO NOT OPEN IT!

Your fuel filter on an '88 is inside the drivers side frame rail but it's
practically up against the engine crossmember.
