So I am very close to slamming my 86. Its not a factory ford gas tank (it is a 50 litre tank that I put in because my teacher gave it to me and it fit). So how is the best way to mount a fuel cell as the tank hangs below the frame so I wouldn't feel safe. I have a hinged tonneau cover so I was thinking of right at the back of the bed by the tailgate but that would inhibit a lot of loading room. How is yours mounted or have any suggestions?

Pull the spare tire and all brackets, then fab a new mount and put the tank at the rear, but under the bed. You would need to fab a fill point inside the bed as well. Just my thoughts on it . . .

Good Luck - would like to see how this comes out.

pics.....lots of pics:headbang:

big pics & in color for Hazmat......Waaaa haaaa haaa

I like that idea. I could fab a diamond plate surrond about 6x6 to mount the fill flush with the bed. Thanks hazmat you got me thinkin now.

did I mention my uncle had a '55 car....he took out one of the tail lights, plumbed the tank filler hose to fit in the fender recess. He mounted a hidden hinge to the tail light & re-installed it, so all he had to do was swing it open , remove the gas cap & fill up the tank, then swing the tail light closed :icon_surprised:

I am usually the one thinking of graphics fab ideas - like doorgunners 36 fabbed into a WWII scene - lowered Generals truck - LOL

Good Luck

I've seen that on a couple old show cars...love it also love the hinged license plate filler too.

I have seen pictures of an S10 Blazer that had the filler behind the left taillight . . . pretty trick fab, but you could see his hinges . . .

'36 fabbed into a civil w....er aa...wwII scene...got my atten-hutt

yep....hinge must be invisible for trick to look good

I wondered bout the license plate thing, but thought the filler cap might be too low causing gas to come out of the filler hose every time he took off---I'm gonna eyeball my '89-'36 to see if I can mount mine behind the license plate (since I moved the L. plate from the left rear fender to back of the bed under the tailgate):icon_surprised:

if you are planning on bagging your truck and installing a c-notch mount the fuel cell in front of the notch and fab a filler neck in the bed side that way your tank isnt in the way of storage then i have seen people mount the air tank and pump where the spare usually would go...just an idea

I made brackets out of angle iron to mount my stock tank in the bed for now... Future plans for me are a Keg tank recessed in my raised bed floor. My friends 96 Ranger we mounted his cell right to the bed floor at the very back of his bed, made some brackets out of 1x1 that went over the cell and just bolted to the bed floor
