Well, doing the V8 swap in my ranger, im contemplating going with a fuel cell, first off, easier to run a larger fuel lines, to feed the motor over the stock lines, and also free up the room, and transfer a little weight to the rear.

Summit sells 20 gallon cells with 2'' sumps and -8an fittings. Wich should be plenty to feed my 347 im building.

My main questions are, im assuming i need to run an inline pump now rather then the in tank style...(still need to buy a larger pump anyhow) is this correct? no big deal... the truck will have a 3''body lift, and i plan to put the cell where my spare used to be, between the frame rails, under the bed... and ill make and access door in the truck bed to the fuel cell for fill up ideally.

My main question is most of the summit tanks come with a 0-90 ohm Gm sending unit, what sending unit can i use, to work with the stock fuel gauge in the dash? will my stock sending unit work, or do i have some modifications ahead?... And if i do need to run an inline fuel pump... will the stock fuel pump wiring be sufficient in powering the inline pump once i get rid of the stock fuel system. I searched a bit but didnt find to many fuel install setups with sending units and such, mostly racers that have put them in.

ok i have a cell in my truck, the stock wiring will run it. you will need to put the inline as close to the tank as possible, just get a universal fit "ford style" sending unit for $30 it will bolt perfectly in place of the gm one in the tank.on my 1988 (older than yours) i just used the yellow/white stripe wire that originally went to the pump/sender harness to go to the single wire on the cell. and on another note damn dude 8-AN is 1/2" that's huge. i'm feeding a 425hp with a 5/16" line so that'll be plenty

i know is more then big enough loll.... i8 plan to run -6an, line, 3/8 roughly, and that being said they sell the kick downs fpr the 8an fitting on the tank, its 199 99 to buy the tank with out the sending unit so im better off to do that. and order the right unit off the bat, do you have any problems daily driving with a fuel cell?

If the truck is for the strip/off road, far back is fine. Street use, I'd put it a lot more to the center of the truck for better handling.

Some of the bagged people use the stock sending unit/pump in a cell. But that would defeat your stated purpose.

mine is an 18 gallon measuring 18"l x 18"w x 13"H and it sloshes a lot, cornering, or acel/decel driving down the road the gauge's needle is all over the place, my pickup is dead center in the bottom, when the tank is really low, like less than a gallon in it (1 gallon on level ground is just above 1" deep in the tank) and im decelerating or accelerating fairly hard for a long stretch the engine will hiccup, to combat this i raised the sending unit (they are adjustable) to read totally empty 1" above the bottom of the tank so i keep more than a gallon in it

I basicly want to be able to move the stock gas tank out its place and place the fuel cell where my spare used to be, if i can run the stock sending unit in the tank that would just be fine by me, i would like to try and feed my motor with -6an fuel line, and i can always put a larger pump in the stock setup, the main thing is getting the stock tank out of there. so i can run the exhaust the way i planned get the old rotted fuel lines out and box up the rear of the frame and stiffen it up.

This is not all set in stone yet. just one the the many idea's i tend to conjure up while being on midnights, bored out of my skull..

I run a 10 gal. cell with foam in it. It's mounted almost directly over top the rear end in the bed facing backwards. It's a drag race style cell with a sump on it, -8 AN ports. I don't have the problem cammed was talking about. I don't know if you're going F.I. or not but it is MUCH easier to run braided line with a fuel cell. I plan on upgrading to a 16 gal. cell sans foam and installing the gauge sender (70-10 ohm) I got from J.C. Whitney. I believe it was less than $30 and is compatible with the factory gauge.

o'reilly by my house stocks the universal senders. i avoid jc whitney when possible they're the harbor freight of auto parts.

and i don't have foam in mine, but i would bet that settles down the sloshing pretty well, and i centered my pickup because mine is 4 wheel drive so i wanted maximum fuel availability at any angle not just going up-hill like having it in the rear would create

I try to avoid JC whitney too but there's no O'Reilly's around here...

Does anyone have the part number and manufacturer of a universal sending unit. Thanks
