OK i have a 1992 4L v6 ranger xlt, and have basically rebuilt the truck. first the transmission and clutch went out so trans was rebuilt and clutch replaced, and master slave cylinder replaced, all that and the truck didn't run still. the truck was sitting for about a year so i was told the gas was probably bad, so i emptied the tank and replaced fuel pump and filter and got new gas. truck ran fine. then a couple days ago i replaced the spark plugs and wires and truck runs rough, i know for a fact everything is in its right place, and i was told it could be a dirty fuel injector, so i was wondering what i could do, i am getting cleaner tomorrow to try, i was just curios on how to pull them to clean further. i need the truck running asap so i can get back home to WA from NV, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may have a bad plug or wire end if the engine ran well before you changed plugs and wires..

ya thats what i thought so i had a mechanic friend test them and all check out, it runs, but has now "umph" to it, and it sputters and backfires....

Johnny, the 4.0 is very picky when it comes to ignition wires and plugs. I pulled my hair out for 30K miles of random misfires under load until a Ford mechanic said to ONLY use Motorcraft plugs and wires. Not one issue since I changed them out. I went through two high-end wire sets and used quality double platinum plugs, but that 4.0 only wants Motorcraft. Since your problems started after replacing your wires and plugs, I'm wondering if this might help. Good luck.

k thanks for the info, i'll check it out tomorrow, i really hope this works!!!!!

Id say they are either gaped wrong or like 4.0blues says. it only want motorcraft ...
