When I headed out of the city last night, it was about 92 degrees F.

Just west of the city, on the divided, 1-lane portion of the highway, the gray goo holding the lens in place got so warm it loosened and the lens flew off. There was no way I could stop and go get it. So, I just watched it get smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror.

I'm the 2nd or 3rd owner of this 2001 Ranger.
The gray goo around the edges of the lens has the consistency of chewing gum.
It's like a sticky version of plumbers putty.
It sure seems a poor method of holding it together!

Can this be the original method that Ford used to hold the lens in place??

Pretty much and industry standard. My Honda headlights have the same sealant. Of course, there is locking tabs as well. I think the Ranger main head lights are the same way. I can’t say about the side marker like what you are showing.

hit up a local junkyard and grab the entire assembly.

another alternative is LMC Truck or Rock Auto, you may be able to get a complete new assembly fairly cheap.

JY pricing on light assemblies generally isn't far off from new aftermarket.

1AAuto.com is a good source for parts like this too. I've ordered several items from them for various vehicles, never been disappointed.

Ebay has these for $14 or a headlight and turn signal combo for $60 for both headlights.

I was SO happy to find that these parts are readily available, for an 18 year old vehicle!
I priced the assembly at $4.83 on RockAuto.com and was going to order one, but at checkout, the estimated delivery time was over a week, and the cheapest shipping was $8.

I found one Amazon.com and ordered it for $10, with free 2-day Amazon Prime shipping.
It will arrive on Monday (tomorrow).

I've not gone looking for Youtube videos of how to replace the assembly yet.
I am hoping its just the removal of a few hex-head screws, swap, and re-screw?

When I look at the remaining turn signal lens, I don't see a hint of gray goo behind it, and there is no give to the lens if I try and pull it off.
Its bonded with something very strong.
I'm thinking the gray goo was put there by a previous owner.

Of note, the new assembly is a TYC branded part. TYC is molded into the plastic lens.

I looked at the right side turn signal lens and it is also a TYC.
Was the TYC original equipment on a 2001 Ranger? Or was the right side light assembly replaced by a previous owner?

TYC is an aftermarket part maker. Rockauto actually has 1 factory original Ford marker for the left side for $29.
