i just picked up an 02 ranger. i was looking at the lighting and wondered...

-my headlamp housings have the two small yellow running/turn lamps integrated in them and they work just fine.
-there are yellow "turn signal" looking lenses with bulbs in them on the outside corners of the headlamps. but they don't light up.

did the previous owner change out lighting, and disconnect those? is there no point to them being there?

and....can i change them to clear lenses?

on my '03 the two outer lenses you are referring to are parking lights only. there is a write up somewhere on here about wiring them to the turn signal though.

interestingly enough, when i turn my parking lights on, only the ones inside the headlamp housings come on, not the outside ones. so when you have just your parking lights on, you have 4 lamps actually illuminating, yes?

yup sure do. but only the ones by the grill blink. I think this is rather silly of ford to set it up that way but hey who am I?

I found the thread where I posted a couple of links to instructions on how to make the outside markers blink. here ya go go to post #7 and follow either of the links.

The inner and outer amber lights are not just parking lights, they are also on when the headlights are on. At least that is the way mine work.

the blinker mod would be a good thing for the tech library. ive seen it done before and it looks really cool when its done.

hm, maybe those bulbs on the outer amber lights of my ranger are blown out (well i hope that it at least...) i'll get a set and see. thanks for all the info.

oh has anyone changed them out for clear lenses with amber bulbs? if so...pics please?

I've got clear corners on my 05 sport trac (same idea)

Here's a vid of the blinker mod that I made a few years back...

Blinker mod does this:

When park lamps off, corner lamps blink with the signals, otherwise all are off.
When park lamps on, corner lamps blink opposite of the signals, otherwise they act just like regular old park lamps when the signals are off.

The two wires coming off the corner lamp, one lead goes to the running lamp hot. The other goes to the turnsignal hot. So...you just snip the black ground wire, and the end coming off the bulb, connect it to the turnsignal hot. Done.

You could even bring this concept into your taillights too...

How about something ALOT cooler than just clear lenses and amber bulbs..........

BUT...I might as well give the man what he asked for....

Also you can swap the parking light bulb in the headlamp housing for a Sylvania Silverstar, which lights up amber but looks blue when it is off and is very cool IMO.

I sure do like those...but when I got 'em, they just looked odd on my truck for some reason.

So what year did the Ranger go from the 3-bulb tail light to 2?

I will take the blacked out heads/corners over the clear any day.....

'00 was the first year for the 2 bulb tails(Tail/stop/turn, reverse). '99 and older are 3 bulb(Tail/Stop, turn, reverse).

I added 906's to my '06+ tails in the reflector area. I've since went LED and you cannot do the blinker mod using LED's.

Where did you find those Fx4Wannabe? those corners are SEXY!!!

I pulled the corners(stock '06+ corner) off a truck in the junkyard, then I baked 'em and customized 'em myself.
