What do I need to do to replace the front right side stub shaft U-joint? This is the one that joints the stub shaft to the slip yoke. The u-joint closest to the differential on the right side shaft.

It doesn't look very accessible in there so I am thinking this is going to take dropping the differential which in turn I am thinking to get the differential out I am probably going to have to first pull the left side and possibly the right side shafts out first. Front drive shaft too but I was planning on checking that out too so was already going there.

I pulled the right side spindle apart last weekend and rather not have to go thru that again and the left too if I don't have do.

So what's the best way to get at that?

I've heard of people using a C-clamp type ball joint press to get that joint out.

If you do drop the diff, you might want to do the E-clip eliminator mod so that any future removals of that shaft are a lot easier.

Note, don't weld on the shaft like shown there, a pair of hose clamps on the boot are more than plenty sufficient.

Yeah, what he said.

I've had good luck doing them in the truck with my balljoint press. It's not fun or easy, bit a lot less work than pulling the shaft out and doing it on the bench.

Sounds like it is worth a try!! Thanks

When does any of it become "fun and easy"?

To me that starts after all the work is done. Which never seems to get done.
