I have a 2011 FR, XLT 4.0, 2 door, ext cab...I have had 3 other Rangers...The seats in this one do not slide forward enough to make access to the rear area easy at all. I did not have any problem with the other extended cab Ranger I had that had 2 doors.
My plan and idea is this:
So, a friend had his 2001 Ranger over yesterday and I compared the driver seat movement...his moved forward, at the bottom, about 1 ¼" more than my 2011. The top of the seat, when tipped forward, gave at least 4 inches more space to reach into the back. I had no problem moving in and out of the back area with my arms and shoulders free and not binding.
I took a close look at my Ranger passenger seat..crawled all under it...I determined that there is no cable to remove. It looks like the top rail has a about a ¼" round peg sticking down from the top and press fit? and or welded into the rail. On the bottom there is about a 3/8" metal peg sticking up and about 10" from the front of the rail and pressed or welded into place...When the seat is slid forward, the top rail peg slides into the bottom peg and the seat motion forward stops. On the inside rail the bottom peg is also one of the fasteners into the front mounting bracket. On the outside set, the peg is separate from the two mounting bracket fasteners. I am thinking, that I will go to the local salvage yard and try to buy another set of rails/seat mount base and experiment with removing either the top or bottom pegs and moving them about 3 to 4 in forward. I probably will have to make new pegs out of bolts and drill new holes for the new pegs..but I will no more if I can buy a salvage seat mount/rails at a decent price...
