My credo
Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.
Hey guys, I just checked and the two front tie rods need to be replaced, as they are worn, both left and right.

Should I replace the inner and outer connecting rods also, do they usually have to be changed, is my real question. And or what else do you suggest I would need to change. I was looking at getting the full front end kit, but I'm not sure if I even have to go there. Not that I'm cheap, I really don't want to change the whole front end. Your thoughts...

I moved this over to the steering forum...

I replace the sleeves based on condition. Salt belt truck... I'd say it's likely I would replace. Give them a look... soak them in penetrant... then they'll be ready to come apart.

I don't even want to recommend brands anymore. So much garbage.

Last time I bought front end parts... I bought Moog. Still it's a buyer beware environment out there.

Unless someone has done some swapping in the past, those inner joints are as worn as the outers. They just may not be showing it yet.

At times I would get a random banging sound when stopping.

I realize its some coin to drop , but Ive always replaced all the steering linkage when Ive found a worn one, others are bound to be nearly as worn anyways. Same on ball joints, but those are more of a pain. I’ve always replaced with greaseable parts.

I'd give everything a good shake, the other two joints could be bad too or they could be fine, they move less than the outers and are a little more protected...

As long as you're in there consider the CV joints. I did the whole front end, everything. Used ebay "Detroit Axle" brand. Whole kit Upper & lower ball joints, inner & outer steering joints, the CV joints, & boots, including new lower A arms with ball joints installed. All for $250. No issues so far, with 2 years on it as a daily driver. Maybe 25Kmi. Drives like new! What a pleasure. Good luck. Easy work. Play some sports talk on the AM radio while you work!

while most of Detroit Axle is chinesium. they are very cheap and dollar effective for performance in my experience ....used to be dearborn axle back in the day...they are a main all in one for us because we can just pick it up at the store and pricing is outstanding.

the random banging noise you described seems like pivot or radius arm bushings....possibly sway bar if that is on there .

or body mount....

stuff like that.

regardless....a complete steering setup might be worth pricing
