2003 4wd SuperCab. I have a rumbling/vibration at highway speeds so I suspected it was a driveshaft issue. I checked the rear driveshaft and the u-joints were tight. But on the front driveshaft where it joins onto the CV joint at the transfer case, there is alot of up/down and side to side movement. I was looking around on RockAuto and it looks like I have to buy a whole new front driveshaft. Is that CV joint not serviceable? Rockauto offers a re-manufactured one and I'm scared to see what the dealer wants for a new one. Do I have any other options?

that joint is unserviceable.

Here's what I did...(info is revelent to your problem...) AND the joints are all serviceable. If you ever plan on putting on a suspension lift, you've already got your shaft.

Make one....or have one made for you.

I made mine from a 95-00 Explorer front shaft. Shortened it a few inches. Used an adaptor. All my parts were brand spankin' new and cost me right under $300. Can be done easily for significantly cheaper using a junkyard shaft and not a brand new one like I did....

$50 JY shaft
$50 shaft shortening
$80 adaptor
=
$180

What I built, is exactly what superlift sells that is priced upwards of $500 for.

:icon_bounceblue: lol, if you really want to know what the dealer wants for one of them new, i will tell ya! haha, i had one of those come apart while doing a new clutch on my 1998, so i took it in to the dealer to see what could be done. the ring came into the $800 area for one new, :shok: which pretty much blew me away (i had $300 ish in mind) however, check out the local salvage and see what you come up with. i picked up another one for $120 and swapped it in. :icon_thumby: then it was all good!

And for just a little bit more, you could have an improved functioning, serviceable design.

Actually the joint IS serviceable it is splined to the driveshaft and held on with a circlip

All you need to do is remove the shaft from the vehicle and remove the
back "dust cover" from the joint and the circlip is right there.

I need to do the same thing to my 1998 ranger.....where did you buy the adapter that makes it go from CV to UJoint on the T-Case?

Got mine from a local driveline shop...ended up being the incorrect model(was a model that was on the shelf for 10 years! lol.). I had to have machine work done to my adaptor to make it fit properly. I needed it now and and no time to find the right adaptor. 2' of snow came the day after I put on my new front shaft... Click my link I posted. Join RF, and view the thread. Later in the thread, the correct part numbers were posted, with links to diagrams of the EXACT part Superlift includes as part of the front shaft...

Neapco is the brand...go to their site and call them up for a local driveline shop to you.
