I have 2000 ford ranger with automatic locking hubs and I recently discovered that my front driveshaft is always spinning?

its not in four wheel drive so I would think that the front drive shaft wouldn't be moving at all, are my hubs messed up or is this normal

If you aren't in a 4x4 mode and the front shaft is spinning then the hubs are locked.

A little bit of spin can be "normal" as there can be a bit of drag through the hubs, but it shouldn't be much.

Being hypothetical here, but since he's a 2000 4x4 he'd have the live axle setup. With the CV's spinning, wouldn't the driveshaft (hypothetically) turn as well if the ring and pinion are spinning...? I've never thought about it since I don't have the live axle setup.

Hypothetically, the live axle setup started on the Explorers in 2000, the Rangers in 02. He has PVH and likely no vacuum to the hub.

No, live axles started in Mid-2000 on 4x4 Rangers. That wasn't my point though...

I'll concede the start date for the live axle, but his truck is still a 2000, which may still have an inoperative PVH system. But yes, not really the point.
