Anybody know where i can get new 4wd bolts for a 91 ford ranger 4.0l

If there the ones I'm thinking of, the dealer should have them but they are a few dollars a piece and they likely have to order them. I ran into this when putting a new driveshaft in, I wanted to put new ujoint retainer bolts in at the same time but decided it wasn't worth the time or wait since mine were still "usable". If your are trashed that might be the best route to go.

Well I did a motor swap last winter and lost the bolts and the dealership wants $16 a bolt and I didn't know if anybody knew who else might be able to get them

I just drilled threw the flange and put in some regular grade 8 bolts with lock nuts on the back. Much easier to deal with a socket then the stupid torques bit they come stock with.

$16 a bolt sounds like robbery! Do you have the part number? Try these guys: http://www.tousleyfordparts.com/ They generally have lower prices than local dealerships.

Otherwise try what simonsays said.

go to autozone and get these:

i think i paid $7 for both and you can actually get a wrench on them. here's a link to the site, part # 81004. i know it says $3.99, but the prices vary by store

Bolt holes are 1/4-28 thread, get yourself a good tap and chase the holes before you put new bolts in (if you don't go the strap route) Graded Allen head cap screws work well as replacement for the factory bolts.

the Bolts I use are 1/4 -28 stock thread, but I buy them from fastenal with 12-point heads

they are 3/4" long "Ferry cap screws"

The only trick is you must have either a 1/4" 12point socket OR a 1/4" combination wrench to get them off
