What is the best way to drain the oil out of the diff. on a Dana 28?

Would it be possible to add a drain plug? I really dont know why there isnt one.

change it?

i got a problem pretty close to that, i cant get the plug out of the front of it just to check it, any ideas on that and to change it with out making a mess, i dont mean to hijack.

Yeah another great aspect of the TTB suspension. Most people I know prefer to use a suction pump to suck the old fluid out the fill hole. This doesn't get every drop out, and it also doesn't get out any metal shavings that might be sitting on the bottom. You could drill and tap a drain hole in the front housing as well. This comes in handy for people that want to change the fluid on a regular basis, such as after deep/muddy water crossings.

First, spray down that fill plug with some PB Blaster or your chioce of penetrating oil. Do it for a couple days, and then have at it. If you still can't get the fill plug out and you want to change the fluid, you need to drill and tap a new fill plug. Make sure it's on the same level as the original plug. Also make sure you change the fluid after making this new fill plug, as shavings will get into the diff housing from the drilling.

You have 3 choices to drain your fluid...1, pull your fill plug and suck it out, 2, unbolt your diff and inspect everything while it is apart, or 3, drill a 7/16" hole in the bottom of the diff housing, let it all drain all out, and tap the hole to 1/2" and grab a 1/2 magnetic plug from your local autoparts store, this way next time your change will be easy and at the same time catch all your fine metal shavings from rollong around in your diff and damaging your bearings. If your quick enough it won't make a mess when you punch through the diff housing with the drill bit

LOL svt im not that good with a drill! thanks for the help. much appericated

Its aluminum, so its not hard to drill, if nothing else cut you a round piece of cardboard about 6 inches in diameter, put it on the drill bit all the way to the drill end, this will act as a shield for when the oil drains down the bit...
