Hey guys, i have an 05 v6 4x4 with a superlift, i have this insane poping noise from the front end. it started after i had some serious suspension/ bushing sqeeking and sprayed everything with WD40.

it happens when taking off from a stop, accelerating, and turning. it is most noticeable when stopping/ accelerating quickly.

so my first thought was lower ball joints i stuck a bar under the tires and they had a little play so i went ahead and borrowed a press and changed them (with moog) i also inspected/ lubed everything while i was in there and it all looked ok. the noise was gone for about 50 miles and then came back just the same, if not worse.

now im kinda thinking its a cv joint. or possibly my front drive (still stock) shaft but that wouldnt explain it popping when turning.

im uploading a quick video to youtube once it posts ill link it here.

at this point im ready to straight axle this bitch:icon_welder:

If you think it's front driveline, just drop and drive for a day, and check the play on the control and bushings

Not sure what to listen for. There seems to be a lot of static noose. But to check the the control arms jack up (on the frame) the truck and put a pry bar in between the arm and frame pocket and see how much they move. Some movement is normal, mabey 1/4-1/2 inch depending on how much you push. For what I can see/hear in the video I would be looking at tie rod ends, rack mounts or the rag joint on the steering shaft. Forshitand giggles you should throw it in 4hi and see if it changes. It could be coming from the rear driveshaft.

so i had my brother crank the wheel while i looked under it, i can see the tie rod ends moving up and down (out of their "socket") but they are tight, so those probably need changed.

Also on the steering linkage there is a u joint that had a boot over it but the boot is torn in two. And the sound is coming from near there.

if its not either of those two im guessing its inside the steering rack. atleast thats where the sound comes from (either steering rack internals, or the steering colom u-joint)

does any of that seem to make sense to you guys? i saw nothing moving other than the tie rod ends. and definitely saw nothing moving hard enough to clank or make a metal to metal contact sound.
