I am putting the front crankshaft seal in on my truck and I didn't think to look at how deep the seal was before I took it out does anybody know how deep it needs to go into the engine if it just needs to be fluch or say 5 milmeters in or something like that? or more??

It goes deeper than flush. I just measured my seal installer and it will seat the seal 7/16" deeper than when it makes contact with the timing cover.

I always just set them flush using a 2x4 and never have an issue.

Of course the 2x4 only works if the cover is off the engine.

Is there a groove cut into the damper pully? You can adjust the depth as long as it is nice and square with the damper it matters little the actual depth. As long as its is not rubbing where its not supposed to.

I put then in so the lip is not where the old lip was (if that makes sense).

how difficult is it to remove the balancer to get to the seal? Do you have to remove the radiator etc.? It doesn't seem like there is a lot of room.
