i'm looking at buying a 93 ex cab, 4x4, 4.0, standard. it seems good but my biggest thing is he says the front passenger axle quarter is stripped. how big of a fix is this?

Front axle quarter?

Front diff?....maybe?

well i think he means the drive shaft from the diff to the passenger wheel

a front axle from a 95 will bolt right up right. i found a complete one on craigslist for 150 with 70K miles. i think ill just buy the truck and this and swap it all out. how hard would that be. a weekend's worth. i am very well equipped with tools and skill

Oh, he might mean the slip joint stripped or a u-joint went out.

I would just remove all the shafts and replace what is broken, and the u-joints.

If the slip joint(yoke) is stripped, then a new set of passenger shafts is a must.

It's pretty simple, and TRS is here to reference. I think a mechanically inclined person should have no trouble.

If doing u-joints a ball joint/u-joint press is a great investment. Either borrow it from a parts store or buy one. Will save you tons of time.

well i have a u-joint press. like i said. i have about every tool you can think of besides a lift or a plasma cutter. lol. i figure it will just need a new shaft. 60 bucks? but if the axle is stripped at the diff could that not be problematic for the gears inside?

no idea what an "axle quarter" is...

Could he have meant that the spindle threads were stripped/damaged at the hub?

If you're planning on doing it by yourself, you could probably get it done in a weekend. I swapped the front axle out of my brother's F-150 last fall. The only problem we ran into was snapping one of the old bolts off at the head and having to drill it out as a result. So just make sure you soak everything before hand, but it sounds like you are well equipped and should have no problem.

its possible. i'm assuming the axle is stripped at one end. i just don't know which. would it be bad if it's stripped at the dif?
