Sooooo... was doing some stuff to the X, and I think that I cost myself some money.
While changing the trans fluid/filter I decided to replace the ignition switch as the trans drained. When I got the new one in and was running the key through its positions to adjust the switch I got the smell of burning plastic and smoke up through the engine. Couldn't find what was burning... until I went back under the X to put the new filter and cover back in trans.
I discovered that I had melted the wiring/terminals for both solenoids and the case mounted receptacle.
Now for the questions. Do I have to pull the VB to change the solenoids/plug? Which wires from the plug go to which solenoids? Does it matter which terminal on each solenoid that the wires go to? If the VB has to come out it's worth doing a shift kit- recommendations? Safe to drive at low speeds (under 40) with no o/d or tcc?
93 X, 4.0, A4LD (2 solenoids, same size) 4x4
Thanks for any help.
Feel free to heckle.. I earned it.
