Friction modifier for open differential?

Leave it better than you found it.
Last time I had my rear axle apart I added the friction modifier when I refilled. I know it's required for limited slip, but could I have gotten by without adding it to my 8.8 28 spline open differential? Hate to spend $ if I don't have to.
 
It is just for the clutches in L/S it cant hurt but yea no real gain in performance.
 
Adding friction modifier to an open rear end is what I like to call "wasting money". It's one and only purpose is to keep the LS clutches from binding up in turns and turning the LS unit into a locker.
 
That's what I figured. As long as it won't hurt I'll leave it in there and chalk it up to a lesson learned the hard way, like most every other thing I've learned in 46 years...
