so i just changed my engine in my 97 ranger ...that works great....and i also changed my rer becouse it needed bearings so i swapped in a sploder 8.8 that i had laying around

well now my tranny is on it's way out...i can hear the input bearing in 3rd and 4th gear.....not to loud but i can hear it....so i changes the fluid today with fresh atf dextron 3 and a bottle of lukes....it did quiet the sound just a tad....but i know i will loose this thing some day


now will any 3.0 4x4 tranny from any year ranger work? local junk yard said only 95-97 rangers

run it till it breaks. When I did the 5-spd swap on my last Ranger the tranny I got made LOTS of noise in every gear but 4th. I drove it for 15k miles and it didn't get any worse. I sold it a year and a half ago, and my friend saw it driving last week, so apparently its served him well also.

ha it was not my tranny...it was the u-joint in my rear shaft!!!!
