it was a good day.i worked hard all day, made a shiney boat shineyer.

there's a guy who got hold of some equipment when the military base here shut down(it wasn't worth it to them to ship it off-island)but he found it took up too much space in his shop....so,he asked if i would take it...but he may need to use it every now and then.

sounded good to me:icon_thumby:

one item was a 4' brown and boggs shear,18ga capacity.not too bad,but it's not the best part.

this is an 8' roper-whitney(pexto)convertible box and pan brake.top-of-the-line piece of equipment.

it has the bolt-in fingers to allow any length of bend needed to make pans or other complex bends....but if they are all removed, there is a solid edge for long even bends.nice:icon_hornsup:

another nice little item...or itemS..a pair of 200hp evinrudes.seems one of them quit on a guy's boat,so he bought a new pair of engines.these sat cluttering up his front lawn for a few months...i cleaned up for him.they both have stainless props($) and one is counter-rotating.
apperantly, the one that quit didn't blow up,it just stopped.probably an electrical issue.worst case,i got one good 200hp motor.it would be a good spare for the old boat.

speaking of the old boat, weather's supposed to be good tomorrow,so i'll head out and see if i can catch some (not so) free dinner:icon_thumby:

Nice - Free stuff = good (most of the time) Those Evinrudes look pretty sweet.

So. Much. Jealousy.....

i'm jealous... of course i'd have no where to put it..
think of what Gwaii could do w/ all that tools

there's been talk about the brake for some time around here,i knew i would eventually get it(but not for free!)the shear was a big bonus,i didn't even know about that.

those motors may make it worthwhile looking for a 26-30' cabin cruiser.they're pretty cheap around here without power.

i wish i had a place for a cabin cruiser. one of my buddies has a 26 footer (i think) and its just been in their shop for a couple years... think they are about to start working on it and using it again.

that's how i felt when i found i'd missed out on this stuff the first time around.
i guess it proves the point that all good things come to those that wait:headbang:

there's lots of boats hanging around here that have had motor problems, and the owners couldn't afford to fix them.they usually need a lot of attention, but if you have some power to bolt up to them, they can be had cheap.so those motors are a big head start on a good camping boat.i hope both are salvageable, that would be a great starting point.

Nice tom you could have used those on your trans tunnel. I like how he said he wants to use it some times, I can't even imagine how much those weigh it ain't like loaning out a screw driver. LOL

having that equipment would have been so handy right from the beginning on the gt...but there's still lots to do.

as far as him using them,i told him to get whatever he wants done laid out,and i'll bend it up for him.i figure it's the least i could do.

I've had customers give me a few neat things every so often.

I can't even begin to remember how many people offered to let me take their kids with me... :icon_rofl:

Had a guy give me a works trimmer/edger with the two batteries and a charger just because he had bought the newer lithium version. One guy offered to give me his 1960s Conn Theaterette if I hauled it away for him, but my girlfriend at the time said no :bawling:

My personal favorite, this one customer had made his own line of air fresheners with his wife before she passed. So he ended up never marketing them, but he gave me a few when I did his inspection. Probably one of my most interesting customers ever. I ended up staying almost an hour and a half just listening to his awesome stories. Anyway, here's a picture of one of them.

His wife did the label art, by the way. A talented woman, he showed me a lot of her pieces around the house.

I've got another one called "Chicken Coop" somewhere around here.

There were two others that he had...I think one was "Grandma's dirty laundry" and I can't seem to remember the other.

Oh yea', I also got my first guitar for free. My buddy's brother's friend was selling his guitar, so I asked how much he wanted for it. He asked if I really wanted to learn, after I said yes he said I can just have it. I had to walk 12 miles round trip to get it, but dammit it was free :D
