Frame rust on a 2005 FX4

Yep, my dad was a snowbird who spent his winters in South Florida (Lake Worth). When he was up north his Taurus was always garaged. After he passed I inherited it and was surprised at the rust on it.

I forget where I read it, but garaging your car in the winter isn't necessarily a good idea. It allows humidity to stay around the car. The garage keeps heat in. Allowing the body to warm to above freezing (32*F) is the worst thing you can do to your car, if you want to minimize rust.

That theory isn't necessarily wrong. Granted my garage is basically a glorified shed but the floor has been soaked if the weather conditions are right even though the roof and structure are water tight against rain and snow. None of my vehicles stay parked in there for long periods of time. They all get run at least a couple times a week at minimum to prevent such issues. Especially with the rear disc brakes.

Could be, altho wife's 2007 Toyota is garaged faithfully and has held off rust pretty well. Garage is unheated, and it gets chilly here in southeast Wisconsin, although not cold like Sask. I'd guess that humidity on average is higher here than on the prairie.
