Hey guys,

This Monday I bought a 99 Ranger XLT Flareside Reg Cab..the thing runs great and all but when I looked at the frame it has a decent amount of rust. Now I am wondering what to do with this..I'm thinking sandblast it and paint it over, but is this really necessary? By the way this beast has to handle Wisconsin weathers also.

Thanks for any help,
Brandon

sandblasting would be good, considering it has rust already, got pics?
i would say do it, prevention is always good

brush and rinse all the rust off that you can. then use POR-15 and brush it on and let it dry. not cheap, but really gets the job done. cheaper and less eco-friendly, get all the rust off, then spray it with hydraulic fluid to get a good coating. go up and down a good dusty road a few times and you're good to go.

Hey Brandon, see it's your first post so a big welcome! I'm about 80 miles West of you here in Stevens Point. Rust is the normal up here as you know. The one big thing besides the frame rust is the spring hangers go bad quick but cheap and easy to fix. If it's just surface rust, do as suggested. with removing the rust and the POR. You didn't mention power train it had but just watching the weather, calling for at least 1" of that white stuff later on Friday.
