My truck has had a seemingly intermittent problem since I purchased it about 6 months ago.

The problem is that the frame rail-mounted fuel pump will sometimes not engage on the first turn of the key. I sometimes have to turn the ignition key 3 or 4 times before I hear the little bugger buzzing and *poof* my truck fires right up.

However for the last couple months, the problem seemingly went away, and the pump would engage with every turn of the key, just like it should. But as of a week ago or so the Fuel Pump Goblin has returned.

Fuel pump relay perhaps? I thought maybe it could have to do with a crappy battery connection, my battery is old and kinda ratty and so are the battery cable terminals, and I've done various cleaning/spraying/adjusting and tightening on them over the months.

-the fat owl.

Get under the truck and check to see if the terminals that connect to the fuel pump are tight. I have seen this before. If they are loose the most professional fix is to replace them, but if your like me you'll just bend them until they contact properly.

+ 10 ...on checking the connection at the pump

Also recheck grounds

could be a bad key switch too

I agree with checking the female + and - to the male prongs on the pump, I bought a new pump and found that a shop failed to notice that the clip was broken and not touching the pump , don't you love how we know how to fix and help each other here.
