frame crack

i have 99 ranger with the frame cracking on the paossengers side. its at the shock mount. ive welded it and its cracked at the edge of the weld and about a foot up the frame. is anyone having problems with the frames on their rangers?

Front or rear? Do you have any pics? The older shock mounts were riveted on (replaceable) IIRC. Not 100% sure about 99's though.

I think it is near the shock mount, not the actual shock mount.

I don't think it is a terribly common thing.

Did u stop drill the crack and V-grove it before u welded it?

I've seen a frame crack on a '99 4x4 near the rear cab mount, it was caused by rust. I think you best option would be to weld a plate over top of the crack

Yup. Get out the whizzy wheel and clean it up really good. Drill a stop hole at the bottom and weld a big old piece of heavy plate over the crack.

this, you have to drill holes at the ends of the cracks to stop it from spreading. then either plate it or fill it, make sure you do good prep work
