My FPR on my 87 2wd is spraying gas from the O-ring underneath. I guess its toast? If only I had one of those fuel line removal tool thingys. :annoyed:

I thought the hogging up on gas and black smoke was bad....

It sounds like you could use a new FPR O Ring. It sounds like the FPR is dead too.

You should use the removal tool if you have it or can afford to buy one but, if not you can do what I did (derived from another post of mine)

My truck has the normal nylon pressure line hoses connected to it. Just before this is the quick connects. All I did was cut the line nice and even right where it came off of the old regulator. There was enough slack there to do this. If you want to mess with it, try to get it off of there..I just decided to cut it...

Then you just slide some of the remaining line over the inlet barbs on the new FPR.

My advice would be to NOT use lube at all. Its tough but its better than feeling like it could slip off. Just take your time, dont bend it much (could crack) and get on every single barb. Keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't move at all. Drive it around and check again.....

One thing you do want to lube up is the O-Ring on the regulator when you install it into the fuel rail. If it doesn't seat and you'll have a hell of a leak. Definitely turn the key on 1st to check for leaks then run the truck, periodically checking under the hood.

Hey thanks for the reply J. There shouldve been a LOL after the "I guess its toast". Kind of a only-funny-to-me-at-the-time post.

Yeah I figured the FPR was bad before, but I havent frigged with it through the winter. Just parked the truck till the snow was gone, and was going to get out to tinker on it. (untill I saw gas spraying everywhere)

I have a spare FPR now, so I'll see if that one pans out. Its just as old Im sure though... I'll try and see if the cutting the hose trick will work though.

No problem man. I hope it fixes it! Those FPR O-Rings are a bitch to seat and tear easy. Good luck!

Ive read that those O-rings are a pain, I guess I'll get the feel of it with the old one Ive got. If I render it useless, I'll know what not to do with a brand new one. LOL

If you do tear the new one when installing or if you want some extras during installation, they are the exact same thing as an injector O-Ring.

Cool, Ive got 6 of those extra! Thanks for the heads up.

Hope the rain is done pissing on me by tomorrow noon so I can get something accomplished.

Different (old) FPR is in.

Went in fairly smooth once I cut the gas line off, because it wasnt budging with any other means of removal. O-ring slid in pretty good with some lube and gas isnt spraying everywhere like before. LOL

I cant see as much black smoke now, but there is some though. Dunno if it was just burning up the excess that was flooding the system or not. (I have GOT to change this oil!) Theres an exhaust leak between the header and H pipe now too, which is kinda odd.

Now there is a slight engine miss every now and then that was never there before, but I didnt run her too long. I did run it around the driveway enough to blow a brake line though..... Bonus.

Story of my life buddy. LOL
